How I Built a High-End In-Home Newborn Brand | Milky Way Podcast

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with The Milky Way Podcast and talk about what really goes into building a luxury in-home newborn photography business. We covered everything from pricing and positioning to outsourcing, client experience, and how I’ve structured my business around fewer, higher-value sessions — without burning out in the process.

I’m so excited to finally share this — I was recently a guest on The Milky Way Podcast, and it was such a good conversation.

We didn’t just talk about pretty images or lighting setups. We talked about the business side of in-home newborn photography — the behind-the-scenes decisions that actually determine whether a photography business feels sustainable… or exhausting.

If you’re a photographer (especially in the newborn space) who’s trying to build something intentional and profitable, this episode might really resonate with you.

Let me give you a glimpse of what we touched on.

Building a Luxury In-Home Newborn Photography Brand

We talked about what it really means to position your work as high-end.

Not just raising prices.

Not just saying the word “luxury.”

But intentionally designing an experience that feels elevated — from the first inquiry to final delivery.

There are subtle shifts that change everything when it comes to luxury newborn photography positioning — and we unpacked a few of them on the episode.

Some of them might surprise you.

Structuring a Business Around Fewer, Higher-Value Sessions

This was a big part of the conversation.

For a long time, I believed growth meant more sessions.

More bookings.More editing.More on the calendar.

Eventually, I realized that wasn’t the kind of business I wanted.

On the podcast, I shared what changed — and how restructuring around fewer, higher-value sessions completely shifted my revenue, my time, and my energy.

If you’ve ever wondered whether you really need volume to scale your newborn photography business… this part is worth listening to.

The Behind-the-Scenes Decisions No One Sees

We also talked about the things people don’t always see from the outside:

  • What I outsource (and why)

  • How I think about workflow

  • The small systems that protect my time

  • The decisions that helped me avoid burnout

It’s easy to assume growth just “happens.”

But it’s almost always the result of quiet, intentional choices made behind the scenes.

And we went there.

Creating a Strong Client Experience (Without Overcomplicating It)

Luxury doesn’t have to mean elaborate.

One of the themes that came up in our conversation was simplicity — how refining and streamlining often creates a stronger client experience than constantly adding more.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing too much in your business, this part of the episode might hit home.

Sometimes the most powerful shifts aren’t about adding — they’re about removing.

A Quick Note on My Education for Photographers

We briefly touched on my education program, Six Figure Storyteller, during the episode.

If you found me through The Milky Way Podcast and you’re curious how I structure the business side of my in-home newborn photography brand, you can learn more about it here:

It’s essentially the framework I use to run my business — from pricing and positioning to workflow and sustainability.

But I won’t unpack it all here. 😉

Why This Conversation Meant So Much

I’m really grateful to The Milky Way team for having me on.

There’s something powerful about having honest conversations about business in the newborn photography space. We talk a lot about art — but not always about sustainability, structure, and long-term vision.

This episode felt like an invitation to have that conversation more openly.

And I hope it encourages you to think about your business differently, too.

Go Listen — I’d Love to Hear What Stood Out

Was it the mindset shift? The structure? The sustainability piece?

Send me a message or share the episode and tag me — I always love hearing what resonates.

And if you’re building your own in-home newborn photography business, just know this:

There’s more than one way to scale.

You get to choose the one that supports your life — not just your revenue.
